Alone in a Red Canoe CD
Alone in a Red Canoe CD
Linda’s songs have captured so many aspects of Bill’s life. Each song tells of his numerous passions. His painting, canoeing, filming, the environment and his love of life are all there. We think she has done a great job in this CD.

A OVERVIEW OF SOME ORIGINS FOR THE SONGS

The Gospel According to Bill Mason
is a light-hearted look at how Bill might have written Genesis as he saw it.

Alone in a Red Canoe
attempts to capture the political turbulence of the three decades during which Bill painted and made his National Film Board of Canada films...

Paddlin’ Yer Own Canoe
refers to one of Bill’s theories: “Never underestimate the power of cliches. People love them".

Baker Tent Blues
is a cheeky retort to all those who teased Bill about his reverence to the old Baker Tent.

Sunshine Boy
attempts to make the link across time between WJM Turner, a Romantic English Impressionist, and Bill Mason, a Canadian. palette-knife painter.

Old Woman Bay
inspired this entire collection. It is the voice of a particular part of Lake Superior where Bill nearly drowned once. She calls out to him as Siren and eventually, in his death, claims him for her own.

And many more songs on the CD.....
