Hi Everyone!

I'm thrilled to update you on our Bill Mason Memorial Scholarship Fund, Canoeing with the Happy Camper event that happened at the end of November 2022 was a great success...not quite a sell out but 80 people comfortably in the house.

It was the first time we did a silent auction and it was super, and we live-auctioned off 3 things (Grey Owl Paddle, Barrelworks barrel and harness, Ron Bayern's sculpture) all that went for retail value!

In addition Paddle Canada tells me there have been many direct donations generated to the BMMSF through Canada Helps.

Cheers,
Becky Mason and Reid McLachlan

About the event

Join host Becky Mason in welcoming

Kevin Callan - the Happy Camper – to Chelsea for an afternoon of stories from his hilarious book “Once Around Algonquin”: an exciting tale of misadventure on the toughest paddling route in Algonquin Provincial Park. Always entertaining, Kevin will also have on hand and discuss his latest offering, a memoir called Another Bend in the River.

Myth Busters! Reid McLachlan and Becky Mason will come clean about which canoe really was Bill Mason's favourite and spill some secrets on how Gatineau Park surreptitiously appears in so many of Bill's National Film Board of Canada films.

Multi-instrumentalist Kate Weekes will fill out the afternoon with stories and songs from the river. Her latest collective project, Rideau Roots was a floating musical residency of 10 musicians travelling from Kingston to Ottawa by canoe, creating music as they went.

There will be amazing door prizes and auction items from Barrelworks, Eureka!, Grey Owl Paddles, Jet Boil, Sea to Summit, Trailhead-Paddleshack and more so come prepared. If you can't make it you can pre-bid on 3 very special items including a copper sculpture of Bill Mason.

All money raised will go to the Bill Mason Memorial Scholarship Fund
